At CEPE, since the beginning of the academic year, we have had many highly enriching professional trainers, among which Ms. Maryke LEFEBVRE HANNEMAN. She is a children’s online safety advocate. As a public affairs specialist, she works for childcare products to check the legislative proposal before it is officially proposed.
She came all the way from Brussels for a full-day intervention to talk to us about EU and US advertising law, relevant case law and self‐regulation, EU advertising rules for children, the legislative process in the EU. She also lectured about what advertising is, how digital advertising and marketing are increasing, and how the challenges posed by growing children’s internet use are being addressed by industry self‐regulation and recent changes in the law?
Thanks to this lesson, we understood the difference between US and EU laws in terms of advertising and how they were made. So, we discovered all about the birth of these laws and their evolution. Did you know that the digital markets act (DMA) sets out a list of dos and don’ts that takes aims directly at each company?
Mrs. Maryke LEFEBVRE HANNEMAN also showed us cases where ads received complaints and explained what happened in each case. Did you know that more than half of consumers’ complaints are due to misleading ads? She presented us the rules about elements of advertising and legal issues, as well as the effects some laws, especially the French laws, have on an advertisement. Thus, we discovered the main rules of children’s ads. Did you know that in a children-related program, product placement is forbidden? Or did you know that advertising for toys is banned from 7 to 10 p.m. in Greece?
These examples give a little taste of what we learned during one lesson, and I let you imagine how much knowledge we acquire every day here at CEPE. We invite you to join us here and get the opportunity to attend the different lectures / speeches that will prepare you to enter the doors of the professional world of your dreams.
